O Jim foi a última aquisição da banda Slipknot. Ele se juntou durante as gravações do primeiro álbum...Root, nasceu em Des Moines, Iowa. Ele ja tocou em bandas como Anal Blast, Atomic Opera, Deadfront e atualmente no Slipknot e Stone Sour, e voltou para a Stone Sour junto com o vocalista Corey Taylor, durante o seu relançamento, em 2002. Antes de entrar no Slipknot, trabalhou como garçom e busboy. Root entrou no Slipknot em Janeiro de 1999, substituindo o guitarrista original..."
